I was honoured and delighted to present a keynote address at the Oceans Institute’s Annual Postgraduate Symposium at the University of Western Australia on 2 November 2018. The symposium covered a full day and involved some 18 presentations from Marine Ecology and Marine Engineering PhD students, almost all of whom are undertaking their research in the Indian Ocean.
I talked about the Southern Ocean of course, as well as reflecting on ocean environmental history. I received some great feedback, and met some amazing scientists including Dr Wiebke Ebeling, who manages the Wave Energy Research Centre in Albany. Thanks to Sahira Bell and Nicole Fiumana for inviting me. I also took the opportunity, whilst in Perth, to spend time at the WA Maritime Museum and enjoy a trip to Rottnest Island on a glorious spring day.
